Modern Heirloom® is the joint creation of jewelry designers and creators Ben Stewart and Kathryn Holton Stewart. This talented pair began their journey together in Art school in the early 90s where they studied illustration as well as Jewelry creation. Upon graduating, their journey together began and alongside beginning a creative partnership Ben and Kathryn also became lifepartners .They married just afeter opening the gallery in 1997 and settled in Kathryn's hometown of Manteo in the Outer Banks of North Caroina to open their now award winning Silver Bonsai Gallery.

As the studio grew so did their skills in crafting and designing .  Their earliest days centered on contemporary jewelry design predominantly in Silver, however their studio and clients needed mmore . Through continuing to grow and study via Couses at New approach school for jewelers in Stone setting and hand engraved alongside 30 years of daily practice on countless projects the couple became masterfull at the art of jewelry making.

In 2002 when their first child was born , They were gifted a family ring as the new born Alyse shared her grandmmother's birthmonth and Modern Heirloom® was born. Inspired by the beauty of that era of jewelry design featuring Hand engraving, filigree, and beautiful goldsmithing technique, Modern Heirloom® also captures the history  love and connection of the people it connects to .
